Angus hails veteran Gordon as he looks to prove his credentials as Scotland's No.1 all over again

- By Blair Esson

ANGUS GUNN has a dream. In 12 months from now he'll have turned 30 and could be on the verge of the greatest experience of his career, as Scotland's first-choice keeper going into the World Cup finals. A first in almost three decades.

There's just one problem. And his name is Craig Gordon.

Gunn thought he'd bumped the old man off this time last year as he headed into the Euros in Germany and left the veteran saying an emotional farewell at the big pre-tournament send-off at Hampden.

On Friday night Gunn will be back between the sticks looking to prove his credentials all over again in a home friendly against Iceland, having fallen down the pecking order in the wake of that sobering short stay on the big stage.

And Cinderella Man Gordon has set his sights on ensuring that Gunn is still playing second fiddle all along the road to the United States, Canada and Mexico – even though the Hearts veteran is pushing 43.

It promises to be quite the Gunn fight.

And the man who has just been freed by Norwich City is clearly up for the battle.

He said: "Last season I had a few injuries which kept me out of the squad, so that was frustrating. I think the last camp I was at was the Portugal and Poland games, so that was just frustrating for me that I couldn't come away with the squad and try to get some game time.

"It comes down to the manager and what he wants to do, but it's good to see Craig back at Hearts.
