Townsend hoping Glasgow Warriors’ European high-fliers can give Scotland a much-needed boost.

Townsend has named 19 Warriors in his 40-man squad for the Six Nations that begins away to Italy on February 7.

There are no new names in the group or any major surprises ~ although veteran France-based forwards Jonny Gray and Dave Cherry are back in.

‘And there's no place for inform Glasgow hooker Gregor Hiddleston who has been named in the ‘A squad instead.

Townsend admits he's loved watching Franco Smith's men power their way into the Champions Cup knockout stages on the back of four straight wins.

And the former Glasgow head coach hopes they'll bring that confidence into the Scotland camp when they meet up next week.

Townsend said: ‘I find players coming from one team, a group of them, playing well together is going to help the international team.

“You have a group that are feeling good about their own performances.
