Budget tax fears ‘set to stall retail sales’, experts warn

STORE sales are predicted to collapse next month as shoppers tighten their belts in readiness for a Budget tax raid
Retail chiefs fear the worst — coming off the back of 13 consecutive months of tumbling trade.
The Confederation of British Industry reported the dismal outlook after surveying 192 chains and wholesalers.
Its findings reflect household fears about being targeted by Chancellor Rachel Reeves on November 26.
The research suggests sales volumes are expected to fall at a faster pace next month, with the weighted balance set to slide from -29% in September to -39%. Anything below zero is a contraction.
