ALBUM RELEASES

The Doobies have been touring since 2021 in celebration of 50 years of music making, during which there were always two quite distinct line-ups. Tom Johnston led the rock group that famously delivered Long Train Running, but when he became ill, he was replaced by Michael McDonald, who took the band down a more soulful road that included What A Fool Believes. Now the two are together with founding member Patrick Simmons and multi-instrumentalist John McFee, and the quartet roll back the years and belie their ages with an impressive set.

past by Dr Dre and Jay-Z, so they must be doing things right. This latest set again enjoys recreating the retro sounds of film soundtracks, to the extent that they deliver their own version of the Mission Impossible theme. The Twang and Reptile Strut delve into 60s spy and crime moments, while Coffy Is The Colour is unfortunately going to have to keep searching vainly for a Blaxploitation movie to inhabit.
