Unknown quantities for Hoops

- By Michael Gannon

AFTER a transfer window searching for answers, Celtic’s dealings have only thrown up more questions.

The club’s much-derided statement at the weekend did little to appease disgruntled fans — but it doesn’t change anything on the pitch.

The Hoops squad is now set until January, with the list submitted to UEFA for the Europa League and everyone else on board for the scrap for domestic honours before any tinkering can be done in 2026.

Here are the selection dilemmas facing manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of Sunday’s return to action at Kilmarnock.

GOALKEEPER

KASPER Schmeichel is a safe bet as No.1. He enjoyed a superb first season at Celtic with some incredible display.

He made a glaring error in the Scottish Cup final but the 38-year-old has bounced back and is a solid last line of defence. The good news for Rodgers is understudy Viljami Sinisalo has looked the part whenever called upon.

DEFENCE

ALISTAIR Johnston’s long-term injury is a serious blow but Celtic failed to sign another option at right-back.

While Anthony Ralston is a capable deputy, there is only inexperienced backup in the shape of 19-year-old Colby Donovan, albeit he does seem a promising talent.
