Asylum crisis spiralling despite Labour's pledge

THURSDAY was a day of shame for the Government. The figures published by the Home Office show just how porous Britain’s borders have become.

And little sums up the exploitation of our generosity better than a whopping 27,000 people coming to the UK on work or study visas, only to then claim asylum.

There will, of course, be some legitimate cases among them.

However, questions will rightly be asked about how this was allowed to happen — was claiming asylum the intention all along?

Was it simply a ruse to get access to taxpayer-funded accommodation and to stay in the UK indefinitely, rather than adhering to the requirements of the visa?
