Anniversary of VJ Day is marked by a lone piper

A LONE piper played on the battlements of Edinburgh Castle to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which marked the end of the Second World War.

Senior Pipe Major Peter Grant was one of six armed forces pipers playing simultaneously at locations in the UK and east Asia yesterday.

All the pipers played the traditional tune When the Battle’s O’er, and a wreath was laid at the Japanese Garden of Peace in Hammersmith, London.
