THE Super Bowl halftime show is supposed to be a moment when America shows the world who it is. This year, it showed the world exactly what is has become.

On one side of the planet, millions watched Bad Bunny deliver a performance that reflected what modern American culture actually looks like: multilingual, diverse, and unashamedly outward-facing.

On the other side sat Donald Trump, furiously tapping away on Truth Social, outraged that the world had not paused to ask his permission before enjoying itself. For most, Bad Bunny's show was exactly what the Super Bowl has long claimed to celebrate - scale, swagger and culture. Dancing that didn't look like it came from an Arkansas country bar in 1987. Clearly, civilisation was under threat.
