A dram good place to live: 'Whiskyopolis' is cheapest seaside town

IT was once dubbed Whiskyopolis for its abundance of distilleries, while locals count Sir Paul McCartney among their neighbours.

But now Campbeltown has a new title — the cheapest seaside town to buy a home in Scotland.

Situated near the tip of the Kintyre peninsula, Campbeltown, which was also the cheapest option in the whole of the UK, is the perfect place to move for those who enjoy peace and quiet — and a whole lot of isolation.

Near Macca’s farm on the Mull of Kintyre, the town’s average house price was just £103,078, down 11% when compared with 2023.

At the other end of the scale, St Andrews was the most expensive coastal location in Scotland, with the average home in the Home of Golf costing £458,381, according to the latest statistics from the Bank of Scotland.
