The City of Philadelphia has announced plans to address potential transportation issues that residents, students, employees, sports fans, and suburban commuters may encounter due to imminent service cuts and fare increases at SEPTA, the state-created regional public transportation authority and one of the largest transit systems in the country.

City Planning for SEPTA Service Cuts and Fare Increases

“We remain optimistic that a resolution will be reached, and we support Governor Josh Shapiro’s proposal for a dedicated, recurring revenue source for SEPTA,” said Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. “We have confidence in Speaker Joanna McClinton, Appropriations Chairman Vincent Hughes, Appropriations Chairman Jordan Harris, House Majority Leader Matt Bradford, and our Republican legislative leaders to find common ground and make progress.”

Mayor Parker noted, “The City of Philadelphia took a crucial step when we passed the city budget and Five-Year Plan in June, allocating $792 million in operating and capital funds for SEPTA.”
