These alternatives offer similar experiences to the original hot spots, whether in landscape, architecture, culture or activities.

For example, a coastal town may offer beaches comparable to those in Bali, or a city might feature historical landmarks similar to those in Rome.

The idea is simple — travellers can enjoy the essence of a popular destination without the crowds, inflated prices or travel stress.

Instead of competing for selfies at iconic landmarks, visitors to destination dupes can have a more relaxed and immersive experience.

Several factors have contributed to the rise of destination dupes. One major reason is overcrowding in traditional tourist hotspots. According to reports, cities like Venice, Paris and Santorini see millions of visitors every year. While these locations are famous for good reasons, the sheer number of tourists can diminish the experience.

Waiting in long lines, dealing with inflated costs and navigating congested streets are challenges that push travellers to look for alternatives.
