DESPITE knowing a third-placed finish was confirmed, Dale put on a fine home display to beat Hyde United 5-1.

Eleanor Ashton’s hat-trick, Emma Flynn's penalty and Niamh Fogarty’s goal of the season contender off the bench meant Dale got back to winning ways and ended the season just two points away from the league title.
Hyde United came into the game knowing anything but defeat and they would be champions, rivals Manchester Laces defeated Rochdale last weekend to give them top spot on goal difference, also ending Dale's chances of lifting the trophy.
Games at home have been a luxury for Dale this season, winning all nine league games played at Hopwood, Atkinson’s side knowing a victory would preserve this fantastic record.
With barely five minutes elapsed, Dale took the lead. Dolcie O'Connor did well to drive down the flank and supply a wonderful delivery for an unmarked Ashton to sweep home for 1-0.
