Whitworth pupils celebrate victory in orienteering contest

PRIMARY and secondary school children took part in an orienteering competition organised by Rossendale School Sports Partnership.
A team from Pendle Forest Orienteers, led by Helen Smethurst, assisted to set up the course, put out the controls, provide the maps for the course round Marl Pits in Rawtenstall and collate the results.
School Games Organiser Nathan Bibby said: “It wouldn't have run as smoothly without their help and we had more children got involved than we have ever had.
“We are so grateful to all the volunteers from Pendle Forest and especially to Helen and the eight Sports Leaders from The Valley Leadership Academy.”
On the day 22 primary and secondary schools took part with 180 pupils from Year 5 and 6 and Year 7 completing the course in teams of two.
