MP backs plan for extra rail services for Retford

MORE trains could be passing every day on the lonely curved track beneath Ordsall Road and West Carr Road, after extra railway services got the backing of Bassetlaw’s MP.

Hull Trains, a brand of rail operator First Group, have proposed a new rail service linking Sheffield and Worksop with Retford and London, linking the low-level line with the East Coast main line passing through Retford.

Jo White MP launched a petition last week to support the new service proposed last year by Hull Trains which already operates long-distance passenger services between Hull Paragon / Beverley and London King’s Cross.

Retford is unusual because it benefitted from new railway infrastructure in the 1960s just as railways were being closed up and down the country due to the Beeching report.
