It is true that tributes and monuments of the past reflect the triumphalism of those times.

Of course, there is nothing stopping contemporary society from erecting new, historical tributes.

Whatever one’s view of history, relics of the past are reminders of what went before. To tear them down is to destroy the context of achievements of change, liberation or emancipation. As such, historical monuments, documents and relics are stepping stones to the present.
