AS we celebrate Women’s Day, I want to take a moment to not only honour women for their strength and resilience — but to share a piece of my heart with you.
My name is Dr Sheena Geness. I am a medical doctor, educator, philanthropist, entrepreneur, activist, wife and mother. However, beyond the accolades and accomplishments, I am also a woman who has known failure, heartbreak, grief, illness and insecurity — and I believe those cracks are where the light truly got in.
For more than 24 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving communities - from the heart of Johannesburg’s CBD as an HIV clinician to my aesthetic medicine practice in Melrose North. I've taught young doctors at Wits, helped run charitable health and education programmes through the Geness Foundation, and stood on stages as a motivational speaker sharing my story. However, none of those titles matter more than this truth: I am still becoming.
