Clare Estate Crematorium’s fee increases challenged

At the outset, I must state that both the all hiring fees together with the cremation fees are exorbitant.

Pradeep Ramlall, president and chairperson of the society’s board of management, said in a previous publication of the POST that 20 funerals per day was conducted at the crematorium.

My calculation based on all-inclusive fees of 15 funerals per day at an average cost of R5 500 is as follows:

@ R5 500 x 15: R82 500

@ R82 500 x 365 (1 year): R30 112 500

@ Less annual expenses: R12 000 000

@ Surplus: R18 112 500
