A word on Women's Day, from women
August 07,2025
|Polokwane Observer
As the country commemorates Women's Day, it reflects not only on the strength and resilience of women but also the struggles they face in their communities.
-
The day is rooted in the 1956 march where over 20 000 women stood against injustice and marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the pass laws imposed during apartheid. Yet years later, many challenges continue such as gender-based violence, women still battle for their rights and dignity.
In honour of the day, Polokwane Observer team asked women about the challenges they still face today.
