Tributes to first female provost following death

Perth and Kinross Council's first female provost has died.

Jean McCormack passed away on Wednesday, June 18.

Provost Xander McDade announced the sad news to councillors later that same day and flags at PKC’s headquarters were lowered to half mast.

In 1992 Jean McCormack became the first lady to serve as Provost for the area and was provost until 1996. She served as a Conservative councillor for the Carse of Gowrie ward for several years and was well known in the area.

Jean's daughter Carrie McLennan posted a touching tribute to her mum on social media.

She praised her “strength, organisational dexterity, determination and consideration for others”.

She added: “I was so lucky to have her as my mum.
