Hangberg cyclist seeks support

Over the past several years, residents have watched Ricardo Snell pedal his way from humble beginnings to becoming a familiar and admired figure among local cyclists.

Snell (26) lives with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a condition he manages with medication, but which has never dimmed his enthusiasm or drive.

Instead, he found direction and purpose on two wheels. "I love cycling because it is fun and makes me feel free," Snell says. "When I am on the bike, I forget about everything else. It keeps me busy and keeps me out of trouble."

His cycling journey began in his teenage years when friends invited him to ride with a local group. What started as weekend rides soon became a passion. In 2022, Snell achieved a milestone by taking part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, the iconic South African race that sees thousands of riders take on a 109 km route around the Cape Peninsula.
