Reassurances issued over contamination found at housing site

Bellway Homes has said repeated testing of soil and groundwater at houses situated off Laymoor Avenue, in the Ferry Grove development, shows contamination is no longer a concern at the site.

Ashberry Homes, an arm of Bellway, began construction of the Ferry Grove development in 2023 with plans for 39 homes and 80 apartments.

But builders on site discovered a redundant oil pipe running within the gardens of homes in plots 16 to 20.

Subsequent analysis shows that the pipe had filled with ground water, which was later found to have traces of diesel and gasoline.
