'Rats spotted' near store as clean-up demanded

Concerns have been raised about the build up of rubbish amid alleged sightings of rats near a Linwood supermarket.

The Asda store, in the Phoenix Retail Park, has come under scrutiny after members of the public complained about the amount of litter lying around.

One individual took the opportunity to film the litter scattered in the bushes which surround the popular store.

In a Facebook post, which was uploaded on January 8, the video displays the mess with crisp packets, food boxes and wrappers blighting the area.

Asda told the Express regular litter picks are carried out with customers encouraged to dispose of litter responsibly.

Councillor David McGonigle, a representative for Linwood, Houston and Crosslee, wants more to be done to combat the growing trend of littering - and says the issue at the Asda store isn’t solely the store’s problem.
