Renfrewshire Foodbank has issued a stark warning about families being hit hard by rising costs as the charity continues its winter appeal.

The demand on the small independent food bank has hugely increased as it looks to support hundreds of people each month across the area.

And with demand typically spiking sharply after Christmas, while donations fall, it places immense pressure on the food bank's ability to keep pace.

Now the Renfrewshire organisation is asking local people to support its appeal by donating food, funds or both.

The average cost of a food parcel is now £25 for an individual, £30 for a couple and £62 for a family which reflects the increased cost of essential items.

Crystal Clayton, manager of Renfrewshire Foodbank, has reiterated the importance of the appeal and the size of the task being faced.
