Consultation reveals importance of heritage to residents

- JACK THOMSON LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

Renfrewshire Council has published a summary of feedback gathered from Lochwinnoch residents and visitors as part of a consultation focusing on the village's heritage.

The local authority encouraged people to take part in the exercise earlier this year and share their views on a potential regeneration project known as 'Cornerstones' - in the conservation area.

It has now summarised the responses and explained the “overwhelming majority” believe its history is either important or very important and are keen to learn more about it.

In a statement on its website, the council said: "The collective value of Lochwinnoch's historic built environment was highlighted as the biggest contributor to the character of the village.

"In particular, Lochwinnoch's churches, the McKillop Institute, the library and Auld Simon are valued for their heritage importance."
