Calls for investment to tackle fly-tipping
February 24, 2026
|Paisley Daily Express
A Renfrewshire councillor has called for “more investment” to tackle fly-tipping following the discovery of dumped rubbish.
Ben Smith, a Labour representative for the Paisley Northwest ward, issued the plea after being made aware of a host of items discarded on West March Road in Paisley.
The Express previously told how fly-tippers had been using the derelict location, close to Glasgow Airport, to offload rubbish.
Terry McTernan, of the Darkwood Crew charity, said he wanted a fresh approach from the local authority and insists the current system isn't working.
Now Councillor Smith says, at the next local elections, this issue would be a focus for any future Labour administration.
He told the Express: “Fly-tipping is a growing problem across Renfrewshire, alongside the growing dissatisfaction with the cleanliness of the streets, particularly in Paisley.
“The Renfrewshire Labour group has been clear that more investment is needed to tackle litter and fly-tipping.
