Goals from Ian McShane and Del Esplin fired Johnstone Burgh into the first round proper of the Scottish Cup.

- Colin Paterson

The West of Scotland League Premier Division (WoSFL) side fought back from a goal down to beat Whitburn at rain-lashed Central Park on Saturday.

In a repeat of the Junior Cup final from 25 years ago, the East of Scotland League outfit took a halftime lead.

However, Murdo MacKinnon’s men responded in the second half to safely negotiate preliminary round two having dumped Irvine Meadow out at the first hurdle.

Burgh will now host Threave Rovers, currently playing in the WoSFL Third Division, on Saturday, September 27 as their journey along the road to Hampden continues.

McShane wiped out Whitburn's advantage two minutes after the restart before Esplin produced a cool finish in the 72nd minute to clinch victory for Burgh.
