Big budget decisions to be made

BY RENFREWSHIRE COUNCIL LABOUR GROUP LEADER IAIN MCMILLAN

It is hard to believe we are already well into February and the nights are thankfully getting lighter.

Of course, February is a significant month for us councillors as we get ready to set the council's budget.

Last year, the SNP administration put up our council tax by the highest amount on record.

Given the Scottish Government have yet again this year underfunded Renfrewshire Council, it will be interesting to see what happens here locally.

Given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, surely any council tax rise will be kept at a minimum.

All will be revealed on February 26 at the council's budget meeting.

One thing that took me aback earlier this week was the increase in charges for drop-off at Glasgow Airport.

I am usually supportive of the airport, and I appreciate its role in being an economic driver here in Renfrewshire and further afield, however, the increase as far as I'm concerned is ridiculous.
