Bank closure fears as Santander set for TSB takeover

Banking giant Santander is on the brink of buying rival TSB, leading to fears the merger could lead to more bank closures.

Analysis of company data shows that there are at least 70 towns and city centres around the UK where both banks currently operate branches less than a mile apart - including Paisley.

The TSB branch on High Street is situated less than a two-minute walk away from Santander, situated around the corner on Gauze Street.

The £2.65 billion deal which Santander has agreed to acquire the TSB Banking Group could eventually see the TSB name disappear from the High Street, as the former “intends to integrate TSB in the Santander group”

That could, some fear, see the remaining TSB branches rebranded as Santander.

Santander has not yet revealed if there will be any new closures.
