Odisha to observe 50 years of crocodile conservation

The state government will observe World Crocodile Day Tuesday, marking 50 years of its pioneering Crocodile Conservation Project—a milestone in India’s biodiversity conservation efforts.
The Forest, Environment & Climate Change department will host the golden jubilee celebration of the project at the Golden Jubilee Hall, College of Agriculture, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT). Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia will attend as chief guest, joined by environmentalists, conservationists, academicians, students, and members of the public. This initiative marked the beginning of one of India’s most successful species recovery programmes. At the time, crocodile populations were on the brink
