Mahaling visits SLNMCH, seeks report on deaths

Congress leaders express deep dissatisfaction over what they termed a “symbolic visit” by the Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling has called for a report on the death of six patients in quick succession at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput.

Mahaling, accompanied by senior health officials, visited the hospital Thursday to assess the situation in light of the public outrage following the deaths of six patients Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

‘The Health Minister sought a report from the hospital authorities and said that stringent action would be taken against those found responsible for the tragic deaths. Mahaling also inspected the surgery ward and held discussions with hospital authorities.

“[ sought a clear explanation from the medical college hospital authorities on what happened for which the patients died. Patient safety is the top priority, and any negligence will result in strict action,” Mahaling told reporters after the visit.

In an X post, the minister said that during the visit to the hospital, he inquired about the health condition of the patients.
