JRC aims to make 25 dists child marriage free

JRC targets to make one lakh villages in the country child marriage free by 2026.

The announcement coincides with first anniversary of ‘Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat’ campaign by Central government. As per the NFHS V, prevalence of child marriage in Odisha is at 20.5 per cent, lower than national average of 23.3 per cent. However, huge disparity in the situation remains in different districts within the state. For instance, in Nabarangapur, Nayagarh, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Mayurbhanj, the prevalence of child marriage is higher than 30 per cent. Six other districts also registered a prevalence rate more than the national average.
