Freedom from drugs: A commitment to children

While Odisha renews its commitment towards a developed state, leveraging on demographic dividend becomes a central point of discussions for its growth opportunities.
With a large portion of its population falling in the working age group, children getting into drugs and substance abuse has become a major concern. In this context, announcement of provisions to open de-addiction centres in every district shows the commitment of the state government.
The Prime Minister gave a clarion call to address the issue of drug and substance abuse by children during his meeting with the chief of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2018 through a joint action plan. Subsequently, it took the shape of an interdepartmental joint action plan-“Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse Among Children and Illicit Trafficking - 2021-a policy spearheaded by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the NCB.
