MUM WAS BLEEDING INTERNALLY FOR HOURS AFTER C-SECTION DELIVERY - BUT MEDICS DIDN'T REALISE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING

- By JOEL MOORE

A NOTTINGHAM mum was placed in a coma for four days after medics failed to recognise she was bleeding internally during the night after a Caesarean section.

Amie Prince was rushed for emergency surgery, where she lost more than three litres of blood, after the planned C-section at City Hospital in August last year.

The 35-year-old, whose family were told she might not make it, eventually woke up, but says she remains an “emotional wreck’.

“T literally don’t sleep at night, I have so many flashbacks about it,’ said the Bestwood Park mum-of-three.

Medics have since admitted there was “definitely an opportunity to recognise” Ms Prince’s internal bleeding earlier, for which Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), the trust which runs the hospital, said it was “truly sorry”.

Her experience is one of 2,500 cases being examined by an ongoing independent review into Nottingham's maternity services - the largest in NHS history.

Ms Prince “felt poorly and was going in and out of consciousness” after giving birth to her son, Reggie, who arrived around midday on August 26 last year.
