'Sad day' as Birds Bakery closes shop in Stapleford

LOCALS are dismayed after Birds Bakery shop shut its doors for the last time in Stapleford town centre.

Many described it as a “sad day” as the family-run East Midlands chain closed the shop in Derby Road on Saturday.

Some said a nearby car park being lost to development had made it difficult for elderly and disabled customers to get to the shop.

The Derby-based bakery has just over 60 shops, mostly in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
