Police appeal over teen's 1987 railway rape ordeal

A TEENAGE girl was lowered on to a railway track and raped by a group of men who claimed to be soldiers.

Police have launched an appeal for information after the victim, now in her 50s, came forward 37 years later.

The woman was 16 when she was subjected to the sustained attack in December 1987 at Newark Northgate station.

She had been on her way to see a relative in Hull but had been stuck at the station for two hours due to snowy conditions.

She was approached by a group of about six young men and went to a nearby pub with them, thinking it would be safer than standing on the platform on her own.

One of the men, who told the victim that he and his group were in the Army, bought her a cola, which she recalled tasted odd. He encouraged her to drink it before quickly buying her another.
