Parking free-for-all forcing residents to leave their cars 15-minute walk from home

PERMIT SCHEME IS NOT ENOUGH TO SOLVE PROBLEM - COUNCILLOR
RESIDENTS have hit out at on-street parking in their neighbourhood, saying they often have to leave their cars a 15-minute walk from their homes because of bumper-to-bumper vehicles.
Some in Forest Fields think more residential parking permits could be the answer, but as the area is one of Nottingham’s most deprived communities, there are concerns about the cost.
There are already some permit schemes in the area, but that just means drivers are parking in nearby roads where schemes are not in operation.
Chris Tynes, 24, has lived in the area for two years. He has rarely been able to park outside his home and is becoming increasingly frustrated with the frequent battle for a space.
“I'm not exactly new to the area, but I never seem to be able to find a space,” he said.
“I think permits would be great, but a lot of my neighbours have multiple cars, and it’s not exactly a rich area, so I don't know whether they would be able to pay for multiple permits.
“Something needs to be done. It's terrible here, especially during school time.”
