Outdated cremators set to be replaced in £1.3 million project

MORE than £1.3 million is set to be spent replacing outdated cremators at Nottingham City Council 's Wilford Hill Crematorium.

The council currently operates and maintains a number of gas-fired cremators at the crematorium, which carries out around 1,200 cremations every year. However the authority says its cremators, which are 28 years old, have exceeded their lifespan. They say that due to their age there is a risk they could fail.

According to council documents the authority has budgeted £1,363,500 for a replacement scheme, with £918,765 coming from reserves and £444,735 from its capital budget. It will be backed by a contingency budget of £150,000.
