'One day a car will come through a kitchen wall - speeding in our village is so bad'
April 21, 2025
|Nottingham Post
PEOPLE living in a picturesque Nottinghamshire village say speeding has become such an issue they fear one day a car will "come through a kitchen wall".
Measures have previously been taken across Gedling to stop so-called car cruising, but those living in Stoke Bardolph, a rural setting off the banks of the River Trent, say certain roads have become a "death trap".
Stoke Lane, a stretch that connects the village to the A612 Colwick Loop Road, is a particular hotspot, they say, while Cats Lane and St Luke's Way are also plagued by speed demons.
"It definitely has got worse, we have lived here for three years," said 27-year-old Kerry Woodall. "It's just like a race track. I was walking across the road with my little girl and my dogs the other day and two cars came screeching round the corner. If I'd walked out a few seconds later I would have been mowed down.
"It's just like a death trap, we need more to be done to stop them, it's every single day. They are treating it all like their own race track. They stopped meeting at that industrial park."
Ms Woodall was referring to the Teal Park industrial estate, built next to the new Rivendell housing estate between Netherfield and Stoke Bardolph. In October last year, a barrier was installed at the industrial park to stop car enthusiasts meeting late at night.
Stoke Bardolph resident Kathy Dixon, 78, fears one day a vehicle will crash through a kitchen wall. "You can always hear them roaring by, it's dangerous, so dangerous," she said.
