Network Rail's safety work prompts concern for wildlife

CONCERNS that Network Rail could destroy wildlife habitats have been raised by campaigners after it was announced that a significant portion of a “wildlife corridor” will be cleared.

Volunteers from the Friends of Colwick Woods have started lobbying Network Rail after they were told that a portion of land next to Colwick Woods will be cleared, which they say would be detrimental to wildlife.

Network Rail said the project to clear vegetation was to allow the safe operation of trains.

The work is due to start this month and will likely take until March which the group argues will interfere with badger setts and nesting birds between Carlton Station and Nottingham.
