'Nasty drunk' who emotionally scarred his wife and children is jailed

A "NASTY drunk" who downed a bottle of spirits and two bottles of wine every day when he lost his job in lockdown controlled his wife so much she was "emotionally scarred".

Nottingham Crown Court heard how, over two years, Neil Young threatened to kill her.

The defendant, formerly of Nottingham, called his wife of 16 years "a lesbian" and she began making notes about his behaviour as she knew he would be too drunk to remember when he sobered up. She "lost her self-esteem, her confidence and her self-worth".

Jailing him for 18 months - his first prison sentence at the age of 51 - Judge Steve Coupland said: "You were drinking exceptional amounts and the events demonstrate you are a nasty drunk.
