MP apologises after saying Corbyn should be deported

ASHFIELD'S LEE ANDERSON EXPLAINS REMARK WAS 'A RETORT TO CHILDISH COMMENT'

LEE Anderson has apologised after joking during an immigration debate in Parliament that Jeremy Corbyn should be deported.

The Reform UK MP for Ashfield says his comments were meant as a retort to “childish” remarks made by the former Labour Party leader earlier in the debate.

The comments came as MPs debated the government's immigration reforms in the House of Commons on Monday. The reforms would see a ban on care workers being recruited from overseas and English language requirements for all work visas being increased.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer was criticised by many, including Nottingham East's Labour MP Nadia Whittome, for language he used during a speech marking the launch of his immigration plans. The PM referred to the risk of the UK becoming an “island of strangers’ a remark many claimed emulated Enoch Powell's controversial ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech.
