'More houses will turn our quiet village into a living nightmare'

VILLAGERS say their quiet community won't be able to cope with plans for new homes.

Residents of Calverton argue that plans to build hundreds more homes could turn the village into a “living nightmare”.

From GP surgeries to schools and roads, a long list of concerns surrounds new proposals set out in Gedling Borough Council’s 2027 Strategic Plan.

The plan earmarks sites in and around Calverton for development.

This battle is not new to those born and bred in the village as several developments have been built in recent years, and the same arguments keep cropping up, with villagers now fed up of seeing green fields turned into building sites.

Robert Hind, 70, and Richard Welby live near a recently completed Calverton housing development near Flatts Lane.

Robert said: “My mum/partner is a disabled driver, and we can barely get out of our drive most days, so this will be terrible. It won't hold up around here.

“There aren’t enough shops and facilities, and the majority of people here have been here their whole lives.
