CCTV REVEALS ‘PROLONGED’ VIOLENCE IN STREETS

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

CCTV showed two gangs of young people fighting, kicking, and one of them bringing a baseball bat down on aman lying on the ground during 30 minutes of violence in a Notting-hamshire town centre.

The footage, played at Nottingham Crown Court, followed the group as blows were exchanged, damage caused and the weapon produced in the early-hours melee in the middle of Kimberley.

At one stage the police arrive but those involved disperse before fur-ther episodes break out and people are injured. But the five who were prosecuted for their involvement - Ellie-May Barratt, Shakaif Wallace, Kaine Booth, Joshua Foster and Nemiah Browne - have all been spared immediate custody partially because it has taken four years to bring the case to a conclusion.

Sentencing them, Judge Julie War-burton said: “It was a prolonged incident of street violence between your two groups where you behaved aggressively in Kimberley town cen-tre. It was the bank holiday and you all decided that was the moment to air your grievances, whatever they were.

“The CCTV does not make for pleasant watching and each one of you could have walked away, but there were then pockets of violence. Tam told you are ashamed of your-selves and frankly you should be. There was no let-up for quite a sig-nificant period of time”
