Macari: Magpies squad is in good shape for promotion

LEWIS Macari believes there is enough quality in the current Notts County squad to go for automatic promotion this term.

The Magpies had a six-game unbeaten run in League Two that was brought to an end last weekend when Colchester United won 3-1 at Meadow Lane.

But that sequence propelled the Magpies into a strong position in the table.

After 17 games, Notts are fourth and only four points off the current leaders Walsall, with a long trip south to face Bristol Rovers up next on Saturday.

There was a strong belief at this point last term that such a feat as promotion was achievable with the squad they had but they fell away towards the end of the regular season under former boss Stuart Maynard and ultimately lost in the playoffs.
