'WE'RE ALL STILL IN SHOCK' SAYS DAUGHTER
A CARING and supportive grandma died after being run over in a supermarket car park by an 89-year-old driver.
Rosemary Macandrew, known as Rose, died in the car park of Waitrose on Ossington Way, Newark, on July 5 last year.
Driver Noel Maguire, 89, lost control of his car while reversing into a parking spot. Ms Macandrew, 61, fell to the ground and was trapped under the car, an inquest was told on Monday.
Her injuries were “so significant they were unsurvivable,” coroner Beth Brown said.
Georgina Luke, of Nottinghamshire Police, said Mr Maguire had not been charged by the time he died on March 5.
The crash also injured another woman, Alexandra Abraham, who had also been shopping at Waitrose.
Ms Abraham was returning to her car when she saw Mr Maguire scraping the nearside of a vehicle while parking. She walked over to tell him and even offered to move the car, an automatic Volkswagen, but he refused.
Mr Maguire's door was open throughout the incident after his interaction with Ms Abraham, but the police were unable to determine if Mr Maguire or Ms Abraham had opened it.
Ms Abraham was knocked over by the door and Mr Maguire then reversed in a circle, damaging several vehicles. Ms Macandrew was run over while he was reversing.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop when it crashed into other parked vehicles in what the inquest heard was an incident that was over very quickly.
