PREDICTS REFORM WOULD SWEEP COUNTY IN POLL
ROBERT Jenrick has dubbed the Conservative Party “totally irrelevant in Nottinghamshire”, days after stepping down from its top team.
The MP for Newark defected to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK on January 15, hours after Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch sacked him from her shadow cabinet after evidence that he was plotting such a move was allegedly found on a printer.
Mr Jenrick has been the Newark MP since 2014, when he won a by-election against a strong challenge from the Ukip party, led at that time by Nigel Farage.
A Reform UK rally marking Mr Jenrick’s defection was held at Newark Showground on Monday - and the MP told the Post that the Conservative Party would be a “wasted vote” at the next election.
The MP, who was previously the only Tory representative in Parliament in all of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, said: “It gives me no pleasure to say it, but the Conservative Party is totally irrelevant in Nottinghamshire now.
“Politics has changed.
