37 ARRESTS AND WEAPONS SEIZED DURING MAJOR CRACKDOWN
POLICE have made 37 arrests and seized 28 weapons in a clampdown on knife crime in Nottingham following a string of stabbings.
The city centre has seen increased patrols since March after the spate of shocking incidents, which prompted campaigners to stage a demonstration in Old Market Square.
The first incident was on February 23 when a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest “in full view” of other shoppers. A 16-year-old later pleaded guilty to carrying out the attack in the Long Row store.
Police then found a machete while investigating reports of a fight between youths in the Hockley area at 11.40am on February 27.
