“What I've found with a lot of older LGBTQ+ established cities is that things revolve more around drinking culture, whereas as a city we've moved on from that.

“Hockley has that sense of support, and you can see that with places like the health shop, and Broadway as a community and a vocally supportive place”

How will the area change?

Mr Harvey said: “Historical plaques will be put up in the area, the maps will be updated, and we'll be looking at a collective image for the shops within the area.

“T've long said Nottingham is a brilliant LGBTQ+ city and it just doesn’t seem to be recognised - this will put us on the map alongside the greats across the UK like Manchester and Brighton.

“We'll get recognition for the amazing local talent we have and this will be an official stamp for the city - I'm really proud”.

One way to determine how Hockley - and the whole of Nottingham - could change is by looking at the experiences of other cities.
