COUNCIL LEADER SPEAKS TO PROTESTERS ABOUT 'VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION'

- By OLIVER PRIDMORE

THE long-awaited new Sherwood library could now end up opening two years later than planned as the city council threatens legal action against developers.

Campaigners and Sherwood residents continue to express their anger about how long it is taking to get their library back - after the old library building was deemed not fit for purpose back in 2017.

The new facility was originally set to open in summer last year but progress has been delayed as contractors work to resolve defects across the site, with more than 100 issues identified at one stage.

Many of those issues still remain, including cracked windows, and Nottingham City Council's leader has now said that the summer of 2026 is the latest deadline her authority is working towards.
