PROPOSALS FOR GREEN-BELT LAND

- JOSHUA HARTLEY

Controversial plans for 3,000 homes are back on the table

DEVELOPERS have confirmed they still want to build thousands of homes on Nottinghamshire's green belt despite years of fierce opposition.

More details have been revealed after developers launched a renewed bid to build 3,000 homes off Whyburn Lane in Hucknall.

Their hopes the land would be allocated for housing by Ashfield District Council were dashed after a backlash against the plans, but in late March Bloor Homes and Peveril Homes made a request to the council that usually precedes a planning application.

New documentation, submitted with this request, has confirmed the plan as another attempt to go ahead with the divisive housing project.

The colossal development would take up 207 hectares of land and include 3,000 homes, a primary school, a nursery, allotments, sports fields and an employment zone for businesses.

A parcel of land will also be put aside for a possible park & ride, which would be part of local transport improvements.
